I haven't done one of these in a while. The Disagree to Agree, 5-pt scale works out fairly well, with most of the flaws (as is the case with all polls) lying in the wording of the questions. My approach was whenever there was a question which I considered to be a non-issue, either because it was simply unimportant or the question itself presumed something I regarded as unfounced, I chose the middle.
