View Article  Free Doughnut Day Tomorrow
If you're feeling bad about having to go back to work tomorrow, here's a little something to cheer you up: tomorrow is National Doughnut Day. And it's more than just another holiday that makes you want to say "big whoop". You can get a free doughnut tomorrow at Krispy Kreme with no purchase required, and at Dunkin Doughnuts you can get a free doughnut with a beverage purchase. If one of these is on your way it makes tomorrow a little better, doesn't it?
View Article  Lift Chairs
You know how it is when you get older it gets harder and harder to get up from where you're sitting. And for many people in their twilight years, they still want to maintain their independence and don't want to have to go live with relatives or a home just because it's hard to get out of their chairs. That's when something like these lift chairs will come in handy. They come in a variety of types and prices. You're not just limited to one kind of chair. I remember what a chore it was to go to all the furniture stores to find the chair that I've used since. I didn't want one that rocked, I wanted one that reclined, but it seemed like it was so hard to find. Not so with this site if you have a particular lift chair in mind. They've got the different styles, so if you have a preference, it shouldn't be so hard to find the one that you want. And they have them in a range of prices, so if you have a particular price in mind, you can search by that criteria as well. And with them offering the most competitive prices, you don't have to go searching all over to find the right chair and the right price. And you don't have to worry about shipping, as they offer free shipping on all their chairs. Not only that, but each chair comes with a 1 year parts and labor warranty (excludes reconditioned models).
View Article  Maytag Problems
At my last job, the joke was that the Maytag repairman was lonely because we were jumping around like crazy trying to get the Maytags fixed. I'm not saying that Maytag had more problems than other brands, just that their advertising was so successful in ingraining itself on the public consciousness that it came up from time to time when dealing with a customer with their product. It came to mind when I saw the picture of Gordon Jump as the repairman in this article about an elderly lady having problems with getting reimbursed on her repair bills, even though Maytag directed her to Sears then said they were unauthorized to work on Maytags.
View Article  Reliable Online Hosting
My internet connection was down earlier today. I was able to determine that the problem was connecting to the internet and not the box or my computer. It drove me crazy to be disconnected to the internet. I tried the old phone connection where you dialed in to connect, and dial up certainly wasn't a fun nostalgic trip down memory lane. It was more an exercise in frustration waiting for web pages to load up. I had to step out for a little bit, and I was hoping that whatever took out the internet would be fixed, and things would be back to normal by the time I got back home.
And if you've ever gone through that at home or at work you know how excruitiating it can be, especially when connectivity is such an important element in your work. That's why it's important to have reliable and dedicated server hosting that you can count on and will be there for you. I don't know of any online hosting service that will always be there forever and ever, but this Atlanta colocation service will certainly do there best to be as reliable as they can. After today, I know how important that is.
View Article  Latest Esquire
I'm reading through the latest issue of Esquire that I got in the mail yesterday. The theme is "stories of our times" with tales that could be a snapshot of what's going on around us. There's a new Stephen King story about a couple facing temptation and what it does to them. I wonder if the germ of this story started with finding out that Tina Fey has a scar on her face that was caused by a stranger causing that scar when she was 5. I also thought of the anime and manga of Area 88, about a pilot who seemed to have it all having his life derailed by a jealous man he thought was his friend tricking him into signing up to be a mercenary pilot in a country fighting a civil war. I never saw the ending of it, which they never did in the original anime videos, and I'm not sure if Viz' translations even got that far (I don't know if the TV series ever got that far) but something like that would have to affect you, no matter how hard you tried to ignore it. The Wikipedia page for the series does say how the different versions end, and I'm disappointed by at least one of them. Or maybe it's a case of knowing when to end a story on a high note, and not talk about the problems after that. Anyway, the King story touches upon all of that.
And someone wrote about their life in San Francisco's Tenderloin district that no matter how bad your life seems, makes you realize how much worse it could be. And a tale of someone from the magazine applying to 300 jobs to see if the world goes to pot how he would fare. I wasn't able to bring up a link for it, but it would be worth checking out at the newsstand or library. It's not the one with Megan Fox on the cover, but has the banner "Stories Of Our Times" across the top. Oh yeah, and the naked lady (Bar Refaeli) with writing on her body.
View Article  Pet Information
When you have a pet that is your responsibility (and that's what my wife and I discussed before we got our first cat, that we would be undertaking a life long responsibility for the rest of the cat's life) you worry and want to make sure everything is okay for him or her. After all, unless they're really bad off, it can be easy to overlook, and you don't want to think of your pet suffering because you were worried about something that's frivolous compared to that. Which is why it's important to have as much pet information as you can get to not only learn more, but to have a place to go to if there's a question or a problem.
View Article  Sotomayor Shennanigans
I hadn't said anything about President Obama's nomination for the Supreme Court because the dance hall is full of the same people doing the same dance, and I didn't feel like joining in. But I'm not so disinterested to keep from finding some criticisms against her being ridiculous as John Rogers points out. It's not going to make people stop saying stupid things like this, but it's interesting to point it out.
View Article  Josh Brolin As Jonah Hex
The Jonah Hex movie is coming out next year, and I pointed out the pictures of Megan Fox in the movie. Don't worry, the link goes directly to those pictures, not me yammering about it. I know what you'd rather see. Now they've got pictures of Josh Brolin as the title character out now. And if you don't mind putting up with a little gossip here's a couple of more.
View Article  Satellite TV Options
When it comes to getting your television signals, you're no longer limited to putting up an antenna or submitting yourself to the mercies of the cable company. Another possibility is satellite TV where you have a greater range of programming available, and isn't limited to the whims of the cable company. And one of the best out there (and one I've used for years now) is DIRECT TV Satellite where you get digital quality signal, free equipment, and free installation. And you can get all your questions answered about getting satellite TV and find out if it's what you really want. But after getting all the information I'd be surprised if it wasn't what you wanted.
View Article  Video Game Fun
While you young whippersnappers are tooling around the nets looking for the latest E3 news and that Beatles Rock Band trailer and things like that (and if any of this sounds interesting, here's a good place to start looking for that, including that trailer) Meanwhile, us old folks can still find good bits of video game information to make us smile. One is Wil Wheaton's column talking about going down memory lane talking about those old school video games. Do you remember places from the arcade games they had? And it's Tetris' birthday!
And in a best of both worlds type of thing Steve Wiebe is trying to recapture his Donkey Kong record at E3.
View Article  Crystal Singing Bowls
I was just reading about the interesting history of Crystal Singing Bowls. Many times, if you'd went to Nepal or Tibet and asked a native if they had a singing bowl, they'd deny knowing anything about it, yet if you went in their homes you'd find many examples of such a thing. Same with the monks and monasteries. There are many reasons that such a thing happened. Some say it is that part of the world's reluctance to share information about their beliefs. And there were some westerners who misled and distorted the abilities of these bowls. And there's China's invasion of Tibet and China's history of religious tolerance. Each bowl has it's own distinctive sound that you can hear and see the bowl before you buy one, so at least you've got that going for you, which is nice.
View Article  Captain America Update
There's a lot of buzz going around about Captain America 600 and Reborn, wondering if it means the return of Steve Rogers. And I told you earlier about Captain America 600 coming out on Monday June 15th instead of the usual Wednesday, with cryptic hints that news coming out that day would drive demand for the book. Rich Johnston nails down the rumors and determines the likely scenario. Then he talks about the speculators bubble forming around those two comics. Worth reading if you're thinking about speculating on either of those comics titles.

You can get the information you need to make the best decision on how you will go about getting the work done that you need. Part of that involves before and after images, and since it has to do with the body and surgery on said body, there may be some mature content that you should be aware of.
View Article  Late Tuesday Night
I've been online looking around at all the different websites, trying to find something interesting to share with you so I can end the day on a high note and end my computer time. But there just doesn't seem to be anything interesting. Doesn't that seem to be the way, when you think there must be something else to say, but there isn't? The smart thing would've been to get off the stage and quit while I was ahead. Since I have no alternative, that is just what I will do. Good night, internet.
View Article  Las Vegas Shows
One of the most popular destinations for travellers is Las Vegas. With everything going on, there's literally something for everybody to do out there. And with all the great shows they've got going on, anybody going out there should see about seeing at least one show while they're out there. But it can get expensive since, like other locations, prices for tickets keep getting higher and higher. Even if you don't plan to do any gambling while you're out there, you don't want to pay full price if you can help it.
But thanks to the good people at Shows Las Vegas, you don't have to pay full price. They negotiate and get the best deals on the shows out there so they can offer you the best prices for tickets. And there's so many different types of shows to see, if you're not sure what show you'd want to get tickets for, they can help you with their detailed descriptions and photos of each show. Whether you want to see a Broadway-level show like Phantom Las Vegas, or an entertainer like Cher or Penn and Teller, or one of the Cirque du Soleil shows, they've got the tickets and deals you're looking for.
View Article  Watchmen Owlship Blu Ray
I was reading up on the latest home video news over at the Digital Bits, and saw this interesting piece of news. It looks like Amazon's going to have a blu ray exclusive for Watchmen with an Owl Ship replica and base for the discs. It does sound tempting, but at the price they're asking I hope it's the director's cut of the film and not the regular movie. My main complaint about Amazon's DVD and blu ray listings is that it doesn't have what's on the discs. It seems they leave it for those to post "reviews" to give you the information as far as what's included. The other blu ray they've got listed for pre-sale has the director's cut and digital copy, but has it listed as only 1 disc, and my experience has been that a digital copy bumps it up to a 2 disc at least. The collector's set has 3 discs listed (and it's only $59 more for the Owl Ship and base, which would make it worth it.
View Article  Disney Deals
It's been a few years since the last time I took a trip down to Florida. I'd like to go back down there some time. I've thought about it from time to time. I've only been down to Orlando, and each time I've went down there I've went to Disney World. And even though those nice and relaxing vacations sounds like a good idea, I'd like to make another stop at the Disney parks. The first time I went down there, Space Mountain was supposed to be ready, but it wasn't. Needless to say, back then Disney World was the only Disney park. Like they say, your first is usually your most fondest one in your heart. And my favorite ride was the 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. The first time we rode it was when it was starting to get dark, so it wasn't years later until I figured out that the submarine never went under water. And after a long day of walking around and riding the rides, even to a young kid the idea of being in a nice air-conditioned ride and being able to sit down to enjoy it sure sounded good. The ride isn't there anymore, but there's plenty to do. I haven't got a chance to see how they refurbished Alien Encounter that I didn't care that much for (and replaced Mission To Mars, a ride I always felt was underrated) to a more fun and enjoyable Stitch's Alien Encounter. Going back to that first trip to Disney World, being able to see the Country Bear Jamboree that I saw on TV and read about and waiting for the arrival of Big Al that all the stories about the attraction seemed to center on, it was great for young me to finally see something that was only on TV and articles before, even if it was an audio-animatronic element, it still was light years ahead of Show Biz Pizza and the like.
And to get the best deals on Disney Tickets this site can help you get the best deal that doesn't involve spending a couple of hours sitting through a hard sales pitch on a time share down in that neck of the woods.

View Article  Niece's Graduation
Kathy and I spent the evening attending our niece's graduation. As with any function with a scheduled start time, Kathy was worried about getting there early enough to get a seat. Usually, we get to the venue well ahead of schedule and with more than enough time. But this time, even getting there an hour early meant that we got one of the last spots in the parking lot (and it was a spot usually not for parking, but the brother in law parked in a similar spot across from us and told us it was okay) and got inside to get one of the last spots in the bleachers. Fortunately, we didn't have to stand. And I was also fortunate enough to bring my mp3 player to listen to Podculture and played Monopoly on my Game Boy Advance until the appointed time. There were a lot of students graduating (more than our graduating class) and the valedictorian misplaced her speech, but found it and gave it a little later in the program. And we were able to make our way down to see Kathy's sister and her mother who was sitting in the handicapped section before we left. She has a little party going on Thursday that we're going to. She's planning to go to Ball State in the fall, so I got her one of the unofficial guides to the campus (I picked up one from the same folks last fall for Indiana University that I found accurate and informative) and a small Stitch graduation plush from the Disney Store the other day.

With the weather getting warmer a lot of people are looking to get away for a vacation. But with money being so tight, a lot of people are thinking that they can't afford to take a trip this year. But with some planning and being careful with your money you might find that you can work something out.
One way to save money is to do a hotel search online to find the best deals on a place to stay. You can also search for a particular location you'd like to go to such as hotels in Los Angeles to find the best deal on a hotel down there. And there's other ways you can save, such as bringing cold cuts and eating in the room instead of going out to a restaurant, and finding a hotel that offers free breakfast.
So if you're wanting to get away this summer, don't just think you can't do it and slump back in defeat feeling like you're stuck at home. With some planning and online research, you can plan a getaway that will make you feel so much better.
View Article  1 Vs. 100 XBox Live
Last night was the first go-round for the US beta test for 1 Vs. 100 on XBox Live. It's based on the game show that was on NBC. You have 1 contestant going against 100 (known as "the mob") answering questions and eliminating members of the mob, and asked at certain points whether they'll take the money or face the mob for more questions. I only watched a few episodes and didn't find the show that interesting. It is more interesting to play it. Right now, the beta testing runs for a couple of hours, and they have another level called "the crowd" that you play amongst until you're selected to be the one or part of the mob. Given that 50,000 people were playing, that would be necessary. But it seems that you have to give the right answers each time, and as fast as possible since speed is a factor. But like those other online games where you see the high scores are perfect or very close to it, making it unattainable for you to get on the list, it seems like it's as impossible to be selected to actually play as the one or the mob. And as they're in beta right now, the only prizes are winning XBox Arcade games, and eventually "Microsoft Points" which sounds exciting as "Tony Points". Want some Tony Points?
While the game is fun, it would be more interesting if they had some attainable things that players could get, like achievement points. It won't cost them anything, and the players would be happy enough with them to keep playing.

With the recent economic meltdown a lot of people are looking at their retirement accounts and assessing the damage. Some people are realizing that they're in worse shape than they were before. But at least they have something put back for their retirement. I'm still in the process of trying to start saving and putting some money back so I can get to a point where I can start saving for retirement. But there's some people who are barely making it with what they have and wishing that they could save.
And when you do start planning to save, what approach are you going to take? You hear about people's retirement savings being cut down by the economic downturns and wonder if it's worth the effort. Some people see gold as an investment and are looking to setting up a gold IRA or a gold 401k to start saving for their retirement. If you're wondering how to put gold in an IRA, you can learn how to set up a retirment account around gold. Reading this information would get you ready to set up a 401k gold account or a IRA gold account, but as with any investments, it would bear further investigation and research before undertaking any new program. And the old saying "don't put all your eggs in one basket" certainly bears keeping in mind.

Mental Floss posted about a new project that just started on David Lynch's website: The Interview Project. It's a 121 part documentary, but each part is only around 3 minutes each. It's about a 70 day road trip and the people that they met on that trip. Each short film is about someone that they talked to that they met. The first one is about Jess, a man waiting to get his trailer repaired so he could go live alone in the desert. There's a new episode promised every 3 days, so it may be worth bookmarking and checking back.

For those that follow how films do at the box office Disney Pixar's Up was the highest grossing film over the weekend. We went to see it Friday in 3D (and paid the extra $2.50 a ticket, cheaper than New York, according to the link) and really enjoyed it. But then again, except for A Bug's Life, I really enjoy all the Pixar's output. And Up was no exception. It's one of the films I'd love to see again. And like Alex Robinson says, you'll have the rest of your life to watch it in 2D and home video, so treat yourself. And after the movie, I happened to be in a Disney Store and ended up getting a Dug the dog plush toy. And as an added bonus, it wasn't until after we got home that I found that it talks.

After reading Rich Johnston's last column for Lying In The Gutters last week, I wondered where I would go for comic news and gossip. I mean, somewhere where there's some chance that some items may be true. Today I got my answer: he's starting a comics blog called Bleeding Cool where it looks like his column is going 24/7. There's even a self-admitted attempt to bump his page rankings by writing about recent "Britain's Got Talent" runner-up and internet sensation Susan Boyle. And it looks like there's going to be a Brazilian manga version of Little Lulu. I know the manga market has died down, but is there any chance somebody could translate it and publish it here, please?
And in a related note, here's 8 ways TV stereotypes comic book fans and shops, from Den Of Geek.

You've probably heard the news about the abortion doctor killed over the weekend. And there's some talk about how Bill O'Really mentioning the doctor and what he did on show in 28 episodes might not have anything to do with it, but I don't think it helped. With Harlan Ellison on the brain lately, it reminds me of his short story !!!The!!Teddy!Crazy!!Show!!! that looked outrageous when it was written years ago, but almost seems quaint nowadays.
