This is Tony Collett's weblog dedicated to my thoughts on the happenings in the world, comic books, anime, science fiction, DVDs, and anything else I encounter. I'm forty-something, male, and married (sorry, ladies)

View Article  Christmas Wrap Up
It pretty much looks like tomorrow will be a return to normal after the holidays, from all signs. We'll see more posts and new content all over the internet starting tomorrow. The good thing is that there'll be a routine again. The bad thing is that there'll be a routine again. I took the outside decorations down today. I removed the ribbon from the columns and wrapped each of them up. I'll have to shorten a couple of them if I use them next Christmas, but the groundwork has been done this past holiday season. And the nails are still up for me to hang the lights on next holiday season as well. Kathy took down some of the ornaments off of the tree, and it looks like the rest of them (and the tree) will be taken down tomorrow. It's sad that it has to be done, but it doesn't do much good to have them up any longer.

If you're looking for a dental procedure to improve your smile or teeth, or if you're in need of some dental work that will make things easier for you, and if you live in the Houston Texas area, you should see what Midtown Denistry can offer you. One good reason to consider them is how comprehensive and informative their web site can be for those seeking dental care. They're not like other businesses that think they have to put up a website that looks it, and doesn't provide any information that couldn't be found in a telephone book ad. Midtown Denistry provides more information that can offer you peace of mind and more important make an appointment with them to have important cosmetic dentistry in Houston Texas work done. View Article  The Next Doctor Who
Okay, other sites have reported this, but I never said I was THE place for news like this. And that I couldn't participate in the fun. So let the gnashing of teeth and rending of garments commence, Matt Smith is going to be the next Doctor. That link had a picture, which I'm sure you wanted to see, and the BBC has more information here. And earlier today Kathleen David wrote a good piece to put fans' wants in perspective. And you're going to turn in, at least the first one, right? I go through the same thing with Kathy, she's not sure about the actor they've chosen as the next Doctor until she watches him in action in the first story and decides he'll do, and she likes him more and more, until they say another actor's taking over the role, and we start all over again.
View Article  Stress Management
With all the news that's been coming out the last few months is it any surprise that people are more stressed? And it gets to a point where just stepping away from the news and taking a break isn't going to solve the problem. And no, drinking isn't going to help either. And there are other suggestions you may have that more than likely will be like the first two options mentioned where you get a little break, but it's short lived, and it's not because of the stressful environment. A lot of it has to do with how you manage your life and how you balance the demands and needs of your life and still are able to get through it all.
The Stress Institute is a company that provides solutions and practices in the fields of stress management, work/life balance, sustainability and mindful living to corporations, non-profits and individuals. With their variety of stress management techniques you can be on your way to a more relaxed and coping approach to life that can allow you to handle whatever is thrown at you. And with their stress reduction seminars that are tailored to whatever stress you're dealing with and how you deal with it, you can be well on your way to living a better lifestyle in no time.
View Article  All Right--Who Told Stan?
If you're like me and other comics fans you don't necessarily follow the Spider-man comic strip as you do the comics. Or just don't follow the comic books anymore. But it looks like the comic strip is now in line with the comic book continuity. And oddly enough, the explanation in the comic strips makes more sense than the one in the comic books.
View Article  Kenmar Watches
Boy, it's amazing what all you can order online nowadays, isn't it? You can get just about anything you want online, and usually very quickly. One example of that is with watches. If you're in the market for Fendi watches or many different brands they have available such as Citizen watches, Seiko watches, Bulova watches, Victorinox Swiss Army and Nixon timepieces.

Kenmar Watches website is very easy to navigate if you're in the market for a watch. You can search by price range, style, brand or more. And they have a toll-free number where you can talk to a representative, but they announce on their website that it's closed until Monday January 5th to let people spend time with their families on the holidays, so if you have a question I guess you'll have to wait until then to call. And they've got this thing with Yahoo! Babel Fish where you can translate a page into a different language, which is a pretty neat feature, I guess. And their site is pretty quick to come up with pages when you click on the link. So it looks like a good site to shop for watches.

View Article  Still Slow
Things are still slow around the internet tubes. Looks like it'll start getting back to normal on Monday, when the holidays are over. Meanwhile, here's the latest Comic Book Urban Legends and new Roger Ebert Movie Answerman column. And The Beat has confirmed the rumors that the next actor to portray Doctor Who will be announced tomorrow. Read the articles and place your bets. It's something to do until Monday.
View Article  Public Schmublic Domain
And here's another follow up, this time about Popeye now being in the public domain in Europe. As far as certain things entering the public domain when it's still out there I don't think much if anything will change because people will be afraid of lawsuits even if they're in the clear. Or actually, not being able to afford to defend themselves from lawsuits for big corporations. Case in point: the Walt And Skeezix reprints from Drawn And Quarterly. There have been 3 volumes published so far, but it's on hold right now because Tribune Media is threatening a lawsuit, and even though the material in question is in public domain (and published under a different name than the strip) they can't afford to fight a lawsuit. And again, as I said before, there isn't as many comic strip publications as there used to be. You don't see any paperback collections anymore, and other than the big guns you don't see any others. And the recent renaissance of strip reprints started with the "Complete Peanuts" haven't brought out that much more. So I guess my point is that it stinks that 1)large corporations can fend off any attempts to use material in the public domain with a little sabre-rattling, and 2) there aren't as many comic strip collections out there that there should be.
View Article  Cable Showdown Resolved
Here's a follow-up to yesterday's piece about the latest cable showdown. It looks like an agreement has been reached. But it's for now, and how much longer until the next cable showdown takes place? And will your cable source be the next participant? Plus, in all the articles about this showdown I found it interesting that it was noted that cutting off Comedy Central meant no more Daily Show or Colbert Report, but no mention of South Park. Nothing against that show, as I said, worth a mention.
View Article  Dating Directory
There are all sorts of dating sites out there. If you're in the market trying to see about finding that special someone it can get to be overwhelming with all the online dating sites to choose from. And a lot of time can be spent looking for all the different ones out there, not to mention all the time that is spent signing up and registering for them, having to go step by step and jump through all of their hoops, only to find out that there's a catch involved, like paying to sign up or get any kind of access to the site that hyped itself as so good. It can get frustrating after you do that a couple of times.
That's where something like this Dating Directory can come in handy. You can at the very least cut down on the amount of time looking for the different online dating sites and narrow down your search to the ones that would apply to you. It's not going to do you any good to join a dating web site if it turns out that there isn't anyone of interest to you, so you might as well find the sites that are interesting to you so that you increase your chances of finding someone there. So don't just bounce from place to place, check the directory.
