Even in the middle of the Democratic Convention a lot of people are getting discouraged and thinking that Barack Obama isn't going to win the election, including Steven Grant, Peter David, and Doc Nebula. I don't want to sound like a Pollyanna, but isn't there still a little over a couple of months left until the election? And McCain hasn't announced his running mate yet. And there's still the campaigning going on, with the debates, the inevitable gaffes, etc. And I don't want to give up and have four more years of this crap.
The other day I had a thought that made me realize why politics is so frustrating: it's like watching a Road Runner cartoon where Wile E. Coyote would paint the fake road cutting through the rock (you know, the one the Road Runner goes through, puzzles at that development, tries it and hits the wall, or gets run over) and the Road Runner hits it. Or the big rock is falling on the Coyote and he puts up the little umbrella to protect himself, and it actually works, bouncing the boulder off of it. Or it's like watching a fight where the guy's getting hit, and he could fight back, but doesn't do anything.
