Kathy and I went and saw Juno today. We were going to go awhile back, but she wasn't feeling up to it. We had a good time. It's a fun movie, smart dialogue, if you haven't gone yet, go.

Going around the internet, going crazy because you can't find much because everyone's out having fun and you're not? Here's some linky goodness:
From Warren Ellis: Is a revolution coming? Sociologist James Davies listed seven preconditions for violent revolution back in 1962 and say all have been met to some degree in the US. Sergio Aragones finally agrees to do a Conan/Groo crossover, inspired by Rashomon. Says a Tarzan/Groo crossover would be easier. And if you wish you were at WonderCon, so does Mark Evanier. Kathleen and Peter David hate Ticketmaster and scalpers. You think it's hard getting a hotel for Comicon when they open up? That's one reason why I don't bother going to live shows or concerts anymore. Friday, February 22

Well, we're getting into the weekend where things'll slow down on the internet, between WonderCon and the Oscars going on. I saw part 3 of Scott Kurtz' interview on PvP was up on Newsarama. Check it out if you wanna read some "Oh no he din't" moments. And here's part one and part two.

There are many people fearful of Barack Obama's safety in this presidential campaign. Of course, things like this happening in Dallas doesn't help. There was less security than when we went to Disney World. If Obama gets the nomination, what he needs to do is select a running mate that people would be afraid to be president (hey, it's

The first rule of wine clubs is that you do not talk about wine clubs. Sorry, I couldn't resist. Even in today's electronic internet surfing, there's something fun about getting something in the mail. Even if you order it beforehand, and even if you track it by how it's shipped, it's still fun to actually go to the mailbox and see it there. And with wine clubs the enjoyment is just starting with the variety of wines offered, it can be just the thing to brighten your day.

You see and hear the news all the time that there is an overweight epidemic in this country. And many people are looking into different options on how to take care of that problem. Some options include dietary supplements. Many people out there are wondering if Orovo is right for them. A review of the ingredients and consultation with their physicians will help resolve that question and start making an effort to get in better shape.

From SF Gate: Eight Comic Books To Read Before You Die. Read them all, so I guess I'm ready. The cold and miserable weather isn't helping, not to mention everything else going on in my life.

Many people received iPods, laptops, PSPs, Nintendo DS, cell phones, etc. for Christmas. And anyone who has any of these items can tell you how everyday use can get them banged up or scratched, especially the screens. That's why invisibleSHIELD has developed protection that can withstand the rigors of everyday wear, and also offer shields for you other electronics to not only keep them new, but to prevent scratches from interfering with your enjoyment of the product. Made from a unique material originally created for the military to protect the leading edges of helicopter blades, the invisibleSHIELD offers protection that other screen protectors, covers, skins, or cases just can't match. If they don't have a shield for your product, they can make one for you. Check out their invisibleSHIELD video. Wednesday, February 20

The owner of my local comic shop weighs in on Free Comic Book Day, especially why DC dropped the ball on their offering. Given how pessimistic he's been talking to me about the future of comics and getting new people into the hobby, he's surprisingly optimistic. Worth a read.

I haven't said anything about the Oscars up to now because of outside circumstances and a lack of seeing the nominees. While I was doing some checking about what was nominated, I came across the annual Outguess Ebert contest. I was feeling ambient about it because while I did real well last year (only missing one, I think) I didn't win any prizes. But I saw the grand prize was a trip to the premiere of Disney/Pixar's Wall*E, I knew I had to take a shot. I saw the deadline was real soon (5pm central today, about a couple of hours from this post) so using Entertainment Weekly's predictions, Ebert's guesses, my knowledge of past Oscars, and some guesswork, I submitted my entry.
Here are my choices in the contest: Best Picture: No Country For Old Men Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis - There Will Be Blood Best Actress: Julie Christie - Away From Her Best Supporting Actor: Javier Bardem - No Country for Old Men Best Supporting Actress: Ruby Dee - American Gangster Best Director: Joel and Ethan Coen - No Country for Old Men Best Orininal Screenplay: Juno - Diablo Cody Best Documentary: No End in Sight Best Animated Film: Ratatouille Tie-Breaker Movie: No Country for Old Men Tie-Breaker Number Of Oscars: 5 Confidential to Doc N: yeah, I hadn't seen No Country For Old Men yet, but from what I hear it's as overrated as Fargo, if not more so, and Fargo did real well in the Oscars, go fig. At least you gotta give the Coens points for doing something different each time. |
