Mark Evanier writes about this year's selections to the National Film Registry. This was the list that was started to keep Ted Turner's crayons away from black and white films note films of merit that should be preserved. There's a couple of surprises on the list. One is The Terminator which if you watch now, especially after seeing T2 you'll be surprised at how B-movie it looked. The other is a family's 1956 home movie of their trip to Disneyland, with a sense of wonder at the then-new park.
