This is Tony Collett's weblog dedicated to my thoughts on the happenings in the world, comic books, anime, science fiction, DVDs, and anything else I encounter. I'm forty-something, male, and married (sorry, ladies)

View Article  Investigating Online
I was drawn to this Yahoo article with the headline Cops learning to extend beats online. It's about how law enforcement is learning to do some detective work online to look for clues to cases in the real world. Apparently, there's some people dumb enough to commit crimes and brag about it online.
But when I saw the headline, I thought it was about the police learning to attack people longer online. I blame Gary Sassaman for this.
View Article  Online Coupon Codes
Like a lot of people, I do some shopping online. Sometimes one thing I do is at the checkout where they ask for a "coupon" or "promotional" code is Google around looking for one. Most cases I'm unsuccessful. I'd hate to think that I missed out on saving some money because I wasn't "in the know". There is a reliable source in online shopping coupons at couponchief.com. They have over 1000 merchants you can search for, either by store or type of product. And if you click on a particular code or store like Target coupon codes or Amazon.com deals, online shopping coupons does the first step for you and transports you to their website. And with the holidays coming up, it's good to know I now have a reliable source for coupon codes.
View Article  A Couple Of Thoughts On Da Strike
For those people who think the writers that are getting ready to go on strike are greedy and own homes and cars should read what Mark Evanier and Colleen Doran have to say about it. Or if you're missing The Daily Show, head over to their web site and as Jon Stewart said at the end of Thursday's show watch the stuff they don't pay the writers for. And there's word they may be an alternate ending to the December 3rd episode of Heroes to serve as a season ending, which will end Chaper 2-Generations. Or you could believe the producer's line that they're just skating by, barely making it, and paying those ungrateful writers anything will break them. Like all the other times they've claimed it before. Like I said before I'm not going to be hurting with this strike (I've got more than plenty of stuff to watch, read, etc) but I don't like someone being cheated out of something, and the cheaters fooling the public into believing their lies.

In the asterisk on your way out. Barry Bonds says he'll boycott the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown if they display his record breaking home run ball with an asterisk. Says he won't go even if inducted to the Hall of Fame. Oh well.

If you've been following the news lately, we're not in the best financial times. People are feeling the pinch. They want to get on better financial footing now. Instead of jumping on the first offer, one should shop around and compare bad credit loans and choose one that they can derive the most benefit from. Here's my contribution to this week's Five For Friday from The Comics Reporter -- Name Five Kid Characters You Like
1. Tubby Thompkins from Little Lulu.
2. Melvin from Playful Little Audrey.
3. Barry Ween, Boy Genius
4. Supersnipe from the comic of the same name.
5. The kid who tells Ted Grant about Green Lantern, inspiring him to become Wildcat.
And while I was looking for links to this post, I didn't know that there was an anime version of Little Lulu done in the 70s. Here's the opening in English:

For a lot of drug and alcohol addicts, drug addiction is the biggest thing in their lives. Also, realizing they have a problem is the important step, but almost as important is decided how to cure their addiction. Because people shouldn't have to stop their addiction alone, Cliffside Malibu Drug Rehabiliation Center is a Drug Rehab in Malibu that makes a special effort to make everything else as comfortable as possible. Residents are not being punished for their addictions, and are treated with the respect and luxury that they deserve. Cliffside Malibu offers each patient an individualized clinical program that includes individual therapy, cognitive-behavioral groups, process groups, and a family program. They tailor their treatment to the individual, offering necessary detox and a 3 day family treatment for family members if needed. But it isn't a total country club rehab, the applicant must show some personal responsibility and be able to perform a reasonable level of self-care over themselves and their living space as well as a willingness and motivation to live in a drug treatment facility and pursue a sober life.
If you or a loved one needs help, please either visit the Drug Rehabiliation website, or call 1-800-501-1988 24 hours a day.

"Ahh, this is your captain speaking. It looks like this redeye flight's gonna be a cakewalk, no problems in sight. We'll be flying at 35,000 feet at just over 600 miles an hour. And if you look under us, you'll see the clouds. They look like big balls of cotton. So soft...zzzzzzzz"
View Article  Mailboxes
Note: Living out here in the rural area, people put as much thought into mailboxes as they do other things. A mailbox isn't something in front of your house or side of the wall in an apartment, it's by the road. No matter where you live, SeattleLuxe .com has different mailboxes to suit your needs. They even have a buyer's guide to help you select the best one, including how locking mailboxes work.
View Article  Happy 80th Steve Ditko
Okay, it isn't likely that Mr. Ditko is online, or would read blogs like this even if he were, but it doesn't mean I don't want to give my best wishes. And that we should celebrate his work, despite Mr. Ditko's insistence that the work should stand on it's own. ComicMix and the Beat have their tributes up. And the Comics Reporter has a nice piece with all sorts of links.

Comic Book Urban Legends #127. What university was able to get a deal with Disney to use one of their characters as a mascot with little more than a photograph? What comic book started as a movie pitch, became a comic, then a movie?

Ken Levine joins other people and me being sick of Bee Movie because of all the hype. Kathy told me the other day how she impressed a co-worker by telling her the animators made Jerry Seinfeld look like his character--AUUGH! I'm doing it, too!
The Rock says he's playing Black Adam in the Shazam! Movie. Crap in a hat.
Gird yer loins, it looks like we're going to war. While I got stacks of stuff and can ride this out until doomsday, I hope they get what they want. I don't think the studios are on such a razor's edge that they can't give something to the writers from the DVD sales and new technologies (downloading, etc).

One thing my wife Kathy likes is house plans and apartment plans. In fact, that's one thing she likes to do in her spare time is to draw up her own plans, when she isn't watching HGTV or similar shows about design and decorating. And I know when she finds out about these Victorian house plans she'll want to take a look at them and think about what all she'd put into a home like that. And there's a lot of designs to choose from. These homes are designed to reflect the most beautiful architectural époques of the past but containing the modern floor plans and amenities one expects in the 21st century.

From time to time I complain about living in the sticks, but sometimes you hear about things like this to make you count your blessings. There are so many similarities between that town and mine that it does hit home. And I hope that's all it does, but the way John Ostrander talks, it may not be. It may be a harbinger of things to come.

They offer a variety of treated wood products that are created and utilized with the upmost in care. Take their railroad ties, for example. They have the largest hardwood and softwood ties inventory on the west coast. They are treated with environmentally-friendly preservatives to stand the test the time and are inspected by a third party to ensure they are the highest quality. They realize products like these will be used for years to come and should be designed to withstand the elements and still preserve their look as well as their utility.

It's been a long time since I wrote about this, and I'm sure a lot of you have dealt with a lot since then. But I'm sure that all of you would be interested in finding out what happened. I have just received an e-mail from Lenice Dixon that her daughter Lila is back home where she belongs, and mother is happy and thankful. I'm sorry that this fell off my radar myself.
View Article  National Memory Screening Day
Note: The following post is sponsored.
This month the Alzheimer's Foundation is holding free memory screenings this month. If you click on the link, you can locate the date, time and location of a memory screening near you. Like a lot of things in health care and testing, people feel that they're better off not knowing and do nothing. But there's the feeling of uncertainty and worry that goes with that. At certain quiet times, you wonder. A lot of times the worry and wonder is a lot worse than testing. It may be an easier path, but it becomes a quagmire that is worse, even if nothing is wrong. Imagine if there were an illness. And with testing, you will find out for certain. It's likely that nothing's wrong, or there's a simple solution. But if the news is less fortunate, it is important to know so that care can be given and provisions made while one is able. While there isn't a cure right now, steps can be taken to minimize the impact and to provide comfort and quality care.
And the Alzheimer's Foundation is working toward a cure, with 87% going toward their programs and services, and only 13% for administrative and fundraising expenses, plus they do not share their donor information.

View Article  Second Cl*v*rf**ld Trailer
More in the spirit of keeping up the reporting than anything else, Ain't It Cool News reports that CHUD has a summary of the new Cl*v*rf**ld trailer. They say that the title is actually said to be Cl*v*rf**ld, although they speculate that it may be a temporary placeholder for the real title, which to be revealed in this trailer, set to go before Beowulf. And that there is a lot of shakycam for those susceptible to motion sickness. Oh joy.

Note: if you're not clear on what is in place for the asterisks, put in the following letters: oeie. I am getting a lot of bandwith usage and taking steps to correct the problem. Thank you.

New York City is on my list of places to visit someday. The only thing is even this little country mouse knows the cost and trouble of having an automobile. And do you remember that story from awhile back about a parking spot for sale for over $200,000? It's madness, I tell you.
Fortunately, one way to alleviate any transportation woes in the Big Apple is this car and limosine service that offers limousine service NJ, JFK, LaGuardia, and other spots in the tri-state area. Why not go to and from the airport in style? And they offer different modes of transportation, from luxury sedans to stretch limousines, vans and coaches, with competitive pricing.

I just realized that they say only go to houses of people you know and I don't know that many people in town. I guess next year I'll just what comics I got and not get any more, or just leave that light off.
