This is Tony Collett's weblog dedicated to my thoughts on the happenings in the world, comic books, anime, science fiction, DVDs, and anything else I encounter. I'm forty-something, male, and married (sorry, ladies)

I got a call yesterday about a job, with a phone interview scheduled for this afternoon. I don't know what it was, if it was nerves, the heat, or what, but I had been a bundle of nerves since yesterday. Eventually my parents helped me out and talked to me, giving me a little more courage to face it. It wasn't confidence that was the problem, it was the parts of the interview that are out of my control that concerned me (and maybe my recent woes and worries)
It isn't the end of the world if I don't get it, and I even applied for a position today I probably wouldn't have if I didn't get the pep talk earlier. It also opens my eyes to the possibilities. And as my parents say, when they're in the nursing home I can pay them back.

Tammy sent me a link to this article about the Pentagon's misleading statements about 9/11 to the commission.
Last night Mark Evanier linked to this article by the associate producer of United 93, who was granted access to audio from that morning from NORAD.

The Washington Post reports that the White House is proposing expanding the authority of military courts beyond terrorists. Maybe my fellow bloggers and myself can get our own wing at Guantanamo.

The Open Voting Foundation has issued a press release about a security flaw in the Diebold voting machines that only needs a screwdriver.

View Article  Top 5 Last Lines In Movies
Reading this article about top 50 movie endings inspired me to come up with this list of the top 5 last lines of dialogue in movies, in no particular order (click on the link if you wanna know what movie they're from):
-"I'm having an old friend for dinner."
-"One more thing, Sofie... is she aware her daughter is still alive?"
-"One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach. All the damn vampires."
-"Well, nobody's perfect."
-"Lens cap."
And a couple of honorable mentions in case you didn't like one of the above (and I just thought of it typing up this list):
-"The son of a bitch stole my watch!"
-"They do get better."

Did some digging and found this comment I made a month after Deadwood's debut. Enjoy the blast from the past.
View Article  Dis And Dat
Well, I finally did it. Between the throttling (taking their sweet time getting and sending DVDs) and having them end up sitting here a long time, I cancelled my Netflix membership. Don't shed a tear for me, gentle reader, as I have plenty of discs, plus cable/satellite, plus stacks of books to more than fill the void.
One of those things is catching up on Deadwood, which I finally started doing by watching the 3rd season debut Sunday, and the second episode yesterday. I hope to keep that pace up to catch up by the season finale/last one before the movie wrap-ups. Meanwhile, Mike Norton notes today was Calamity Jane's birthday, and here's Tammy lamenting waiting a week between episodes. Wonder if I should slow down on watching them... That's the thing about something like this where you have more to enjoy than those who are up to date, like coming into a show, a comic book, whatever. You have this fear of waiting so long like everyone else you hold up on catching up. The wife and I do this all the time.
And Paul Harris notes that today is MTV's 25th anniversary. Might crack open those 80s videos DVDs I got awhile back to celebrate...
And join me in welcoming to the weblog rolls (on the right) Don Boy!
