This is Tony Collett's weblog dedicated to my thoughts on the happenings in the world, comic books, anime, science fiction, DVDs, and anything else I encounter.

Steve Thompson who was having worse troubles than me, looks like he's got a job lined up. Now if only some of that good luck would come my way...

Another Saturday, another early drop-off of the wife to work, and I can't sleep. So I'm toolin' around the internets.
Wanted to write about the show we saw last night called Life On Mars, and import from Britain currently showing on BBC America about a detective in 2006 who, after a traffic accident, ends up in 1973. The song "Life On Mars" by David Bowie is playing on his iPod and then his 8 track, hence the title. If you check out the link above written by DonBoy, it points out that there are some cultural differences, such as jokes not immediately apparent to us Yanks, and that Britain was more different 33 years ago than we were. But hell, if I can wade thru Urusei Yatsura that had each tape come with Cliff Notes... Also, I'm reading this article by Hugh MacLeod called "How To Be Creative". Worth checking out, even if you don't think you are creative. Wednesday, July 26

We're getting into the home stretch on some of my eBay auctions. If you haven't checked them out or got the word out, please do so.
Help out the, for lack of a better term, "Pay the wife's dental bills/Return to River City/Maybe even get back to the Smokies/please, pretty please?" Fund.

Mark Evanier mentioned a bad edit on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno with Keith Olbermann that referenced Bill "Ted Baxter" O'Reilly falsely accusing American soldiers of committing an atrocity that was actually committed on them...again!

Here's what I posted to Tony Isabella's board about his report on the papers he read while he was on vacation. He's posted it here and here's the first one if you wanna check them out, and his MySpace page. Thought I'd share it with you:
I've always like getting newspapers to read on vacation. The relatives thought it was cute that I'd do that, and thought I was more studious than I was. The truth was, I was more interested in the comics sections. Back then, it seemed like you'd get more variety. Nowadays, it seems like the usual suspects are in each comic section, with very few exceptions. Also, I have matured to the point where I do read the papers I get, to 1) get a feel for the town they're representing, and 2) to see how they may cover a particular story. As you've noted before, the same story sometimes gets a different spin in each paper. |
