Most everything I've said about the gay marriage issue I've already said before, plus Mike Norton does a good job writing about it. Go check it out and wish him a happy anniversary. Blogspot is down right now, so I can't.
But I will add something I've heard Margaret Cho say when I went to see her (and she said it on video as well) about those fighting for the Marriage Amendment: "Aren't you supposed to be busy getting ready for the Rapture?"

The wife and I started walking yesterday. We walk around our little town for about a half hour or so. Hopefully it will be something we continue to do during this warmer weather. And it also helps fight off any depression I feel, as they say exercise release endorphins.

Here's my contribution for this week's Five for Friday at the Comics Reporter:
"Name your five favorite sound effects of all time." 1) "Snikt" --It even entered the vocabulary of my friends and I in college, in response to any provocative statement. 2) "Zot" --Courtesy of "BC", although I wish Scott McCloud could have some credit. 3) "Ert" --Shouldn't a vehicle stopping sound like that in real life? 4) "Boffo" --Because each list should have one from the "Batman" TV show 5) "kiss" --From "Blondie", not accurate, but says it all. Mark Evanier brought this Rolling Stone article to my attention about the voting irregularities in the 2004 election, particularly in Ohio.
From the article: "To help prevent a repeat of 2004, Kerry has co-sponsored a package of election reforms called the Count Every Vote Act. The measure would increase turnout by allowing voters to register at the polls on Election Day, provide provisional ballots to voters who inadvertently show up at the wrong precinct, require electronic voting machines to produce paper receipts verified by voters, and force election officials like Blackwell to step down if they want to join a campaign. But Kerry says his fellow Democrats have been reluctant to push the reforms, fearing that Republicans would use their majority in Congress to create even more obstacles to voting. ''The real reason there is no appetite up here is that people are afraid the Republicans will amend HAVA and shove something far worse down our throats,'' he told me." Also, Mark writes about how he lost a friend that thought the voting irregularities that came out in 2000 didn't matter because "his guy won". It seems like a good deal of political arguments stem from this, or are considered okay because of something someone from the other party did. And Peter David writes about how the terror budget in New York was slashed 40% because they have "no national icons" that would present targets (and voted for Kerry in 2004, and represented by Hilary) while blue and close to blue states had their funding increased, like Louisville, KY. So I should take some comfort that Tammy and Highlander are safer. |
