Mark Evanier noted yesterday the passing of Martin Nodell at the age of 91. He created Green Lantern and had a hand in the creation of the Pillsbury Doughboy. Mark's post clarifies that last point, as there had been some contention about it.
His wife Carrie and he were a staple of the Chicago Comicon, and like your old neighborhood playground, it was a comfort for Kathy and I to see them. He always seemed friendly and interested in talking to the fans.

Of course some conservatives want to kick up a fuss about Keith Ellison, a Muslim congressman elect, wanting to take his oath on the Quran when he is sworn in next month.
I would say something about the sanctity of the oath vs. showboating, but the main rabble-rouser pretty much beats anything I would say by saying "I want Jews like myself to take the oath on the Bible, even though the New Testament is not our Bible." Friday, December 1

Jaime J. Weinman reported on his blog that Shirley Walker died Wednesday. Walker was a composer for Batman The Animated Series, The Flash, Batman Beyond, among others; bringing her own style and not merely rehashing Danny Elfman's scores.
