This is Tony Collett's weblog dedicated to my thoughts on the happenings in the world, comic books, anime, science fiction, DVDs, and anything else I encounter. I'm forty-something, male, and married (sorry, ladies)

View Article  Another Great Superhero Cartoon Intro
In yesterday's post I wrote and showed you the best intro for a superhero cartoon (that Mike Norton picked up on and elaborated. Thanks, buddy!)
Well, here's a runner up vid:

And a remix version:
View Article  Robert Altman RIP
Director Robert Altman died last night, he was 81. As Elayne (where I read the news) said, damn indeed.
He was so talented...
...able to take nuances...
and overlapping converations
...and make them look so effortless...
and a joy to watch
even when you didn't like the movie
you liked the work on the screen.

That was an attempt to capture the flavor of the man's work, but coming up far short. Heck, even coming up shorter than Lily Tomlin and Meryl Streep's try at the last Oscars when they presented Altman with the Thalberg Award.
View Article  Happy Birthday Highlander!
Last weekend was a combo celebration: my birthday (which was yesterday) and Highlander's (which is today). To celebrate, here's a video (a gift that Tammy will enjoy, too):

Although he's nicknamed Highlander, he once said he didn't care that much for the movies, and the nickname is more derived from his neck of the woods.
Hey, Kathy and I like the song.
So if it's any consolation, here's the best introduction of any superhero cartoon character/s:

Batman's just got a spotlight with a bat on it. This one is Captain America's and the John Birch Society's wet dream.
View Article  Where I've Been
Well, I just got back from a fun weekend with friends. If you're interested in the gory details and/or what I look like, click here. As far as those details: I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can't prove anything.
Meanwhile, as I'm writing this, I'm listening online to the premiere of the new Beatles album "Love", that's hyped as a collaboration between the Beatles and Cirque Du Soleil. Care to join me?
This is a higher scale of premiering the "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" by blasting it from Mama Cass' apartment window. I sense that from wherever they are, the Fab Four approve.

View Article  Hear The Lamentations of the Women
I just read on Mike Wieringo's blog (sorry, no way to link to the specific post. Also: sorry for the delay on this, Mike's blog took forever to load on dial up) that Basil Poledouris passed away. I'm listening to the Conan the Barbarian soundtrack as I'm typing this.
