This is Tony Collett's weblog dedicated to my thoughts on the happenings in the world, comic books, anime, science fiction, DVDs, and anything else I encounter.
I'm forty-something, male, and married (sorry, ladies)

A reminder of something I mentioned before: today only (Halloween) and for the first 500 who order it, you can get a free copy of Back Issue #18, the big green issue.

I got a note from my blog provider saying that although I am projected to come in under the wire, there is a chance that I would exceed my bandwidth this month. Given my circumstances and situation (and that it's close to the end of the month) I probably won't be able to pay up for more bandwidth and may be going dark until the 1st if I cross the line. So if you come here and says it's unavailable, sorry about that, and I'll see you Wednesday.

TV Squad has this story that says the Robot Chicken crew has been commissioned by Lucasfilm to do a special parodying Star Wars. If you saw the Darth Vader calling the Emperor about the first Death Star blowing up (as the picture in the article is from) then you know we're in for a treat.
This almost makes up for the Star Wars Holiday Special. Almost. And it does nothing about the new trilogy.

The Beat reports on this article in Wired saying that comics aren't good enough for book awards.
Neil Gaiman sums up this prejudice best: "It’s always best to be offended by things you haven’t read. That way you keep your mind uncluttered by things that might change it." Thursday, October 26

TwoMorrows Publishing is offering a deal this Tuesday on Halloween, the first 500 copies of Back Issue #18 (The big green issue) for Free! I already got a copy from my LCS, and recommend checking it out, even if you end up paying for it. (Bit of warning, though: the copy in the aforementioned link says there's an article about the aborted She Hulk movie a few years ago that didn't make it this issue, but is promised for a future issue. Sorry, Brigette Nielsen [no, I'm not making that up, scroll down this page if you don't believe me] fans)
Also on Halloween, I'll be giving out comics to the Trick Or Treaters (our motto: everybody else is giving you stuff that rots your teeth, I'm giving out stuff that rots your brain) comprised mainly of the 25 cent try out issues solicited through the year, and the Archie and Death Jr Halloween bundles offered through Diamond. Fark said about this article: "Hillary Rodham Clinton polls differently than Hillary Clinton. Is this evidence that: a) Polls are BS, b) People are stupid, or c) All of the Above".
I say because people have been warned/brainwashed so much about Hillary Clinton that the Rodham throws off the programming. Not to say that I am a fan, but I've heard so many "Hillary Clinton is the boogeywoman" stories (especially from the FundaMENTALists) that that's my theory. What's yours?

Fark pointed me to this: Steve Olson's 10 Reasons Target Is Better Than Wal-Mart.
This has opened my eyes. I've said it before and I'll say it again: we could solve the energy crisis by hooking up a turbine at Sam Walton's grave. Follow Up: I read Mr. Olson's blog, which features other eye-opening thoughts (such as learning why he was more worried about transporting his business hardware and software in his vehicle than his family, what to do when the "check engine light" comes on, etc), and added him to the blog roll on the right. Go check him out. |
