Here's a link to a site about a storyline in 1930 about Mickey Mouse deciding to kill himself because he thinks Minnie doesn't love him anymore.

Yeesh! I've never been much of a Disney fan In the end the message is hopeful, and I suppose that there, in the depths of The Depression lots of people were resonating with Mickey even if it wasn't about Minnie.
