This is Tony Collett's weblog dedicated to my thoughts on the happenings in the world, comic books, anime, science fiction, DVDs, and anything else I encounter. I'm forty-something, male, and married (sorry, ladies)

Here's a link to a site about a storyline in 1930 about Mickey Mouse deciding to kill himself because he thinks Minnie doesn't love him anymore.

Once again, it's that annual reminder that you're old, The Beloit College Mindset List for the class of 2009. This is for incoming freshmen that were born in 1987. "Starbucks, souped-up car stereos, telephone voicemail systems, and Bill Gates have always been a part of their lives."

View Article  Missing Two Weeks Vacation
One of the problems I've had with posting is similar to a Peanuts strip in the early 70's when one of Peppermint Patty's charges at summer camp was homesick. PP's solution was to have the young girl write a letter home. "Dear mom and dad, I am homesick" the young girl dictated. As my problem is unemployment, it is a similar dilemna.
But I have thought of something that I wanted to put down:
I miss the two week vacation. By that I mean the travelling somewhere for 2 weeks with your family type of vacation. It seems to be one of the things that went away with Reagan in the early 80's, along with a hope of doing better than your parents did. Nowadays, vacations are a week, if you even take them. I myself haven't taken a trip over a week since '97 when the wife and I went to Orlando for a week and a half. The prospect of taking a long vacation seem very slim despite my current situation, as to quote another Peanuts strip my favorite kind of trips are the ones where you can be home by noon. However, I do get hit with a desire to see new places and things, as well as lament not being able to see what I've seen before again.
View Article  I Won!
The last issue of Giant Magazine had a survey in it, said the first 50 respondents would win a DVD. I made it, got the special edition of Spaceballs for filling it out.
