On the heels of last week's announcement of X Box 360 comes the announcements at E3 of Sony's Playstation 3 and Nintendo Revolution, promising users the opportunity to not only play GameCube games, but to be able to download virtually every game they've made.

Got a DVD recorder last Saturday. I've been looking at them for some time now, opted for a Panasonic model because it had a 1 yr parts and labor warranty, and had a lot of the features I wanted. It also offers the most options on types of discs you can use to record (as brief as I can not to lose my readers (all 3 of them) most models allow you to record on plus (+) or minus (-) discs, on CD R (one time only) or CD RW (record over and over, like video tapes) with the + or - between the spaces. The only format I can't use is CD+RW, apparanetly. There's also DVD-RAM, but from what I've read, it doesn't strike my fancy right now)
I've been using it to move stuff from my TiVo to DVDs, as I wasn't happy with saving them on VCRs. In the future I'm looking to transfer some tapes to DVD. I've already made a copy of a tape I got at Universal Studios Orlando of the Star Trek Adventure, starring my then-girlfriend now-wife as the Vulcan First Officer, my nephew as the Ensign, and yours truly as the acting Captain of the Enterprise. It was done on blue screen, with backgrounds and supporting Star Trek characters added in. And no, if you can't have a copy. After that Star Wars nerd video, I'm keeping this away from everyone with computer access.

Frank Gorshin has passed away at 72.
Also, Peter David's cat has passed away. Given that I have 3 cats that I came into similar to Peter's (stray pregnant mama cat that came by around the time my last cat died), and still missing my last cat, is why it's on my blog.

According to Newsrama, Kelsey Grammer is to play Hank McCoy, AKA The Beast, in X-Men 3. Scoll down the page and check out a Beast illustration by Boris Vallejo with a picture of Mr. Grammer.
Also, Maggie Grace of Lost is in talks to play Kitty Pryde. Tuesday, May 17

Mark Evanier has posted a link to Matthew Yglesias asking many of the same questions I raised earlier.
Also, Paul Harris has raised some good points, particularly linking to a Pentagon press release stating the recent riots were not due to the Newsweek story, but due to the ongoing political reconciliation process in Afganistan. We need to get the word out on this, troops. If we don't, who will? The media?

Before everybody jumps on the bandwagon to condemn Newsweek for admitting an error in reporting, would it be too much to ask that we read what they said about this before you start repeating the "Newsweek doesn't report the truth" mantra?
And check out D's comments on the matter that caused me to seek out the original artcle It's under "A Girl Named John?", but read it all: it's prefaced by his thoughts that the Nazis wasn't due to what was in the Germans' hearts, but in all of ours'. Something to think about when you go see Episode 3. Friday, May 13

Fran Drescher writes about the crackdown on decency by the FCC. And you might want to spread the word about this bil to keep them out of cable, satellite, the internet, and non-broadcast providers, and contact your representative.

I've been coasting lately by waiting until I felt strongly enough about something to get on the soapbox about, but there's been too much cynicism in me to comment on recent developments, like the recent National ID card rider attached to getting more money to the troops (like anyone would vote against that in this atmos-fear) passing. So I'm not sure where to go or what to do. Have to chew on that awhile, kids.
Meanwhile, here's the movie poster for The Wallace and Gromit Movie. Also, the new Entertainment Weekly had a piece about a game I heard about awhile back The Movies, a sim where you control a movie studio from 1920 to 2020, and can create you own movies. It mentioned even posting them online. However, a search (made difficult by the numerous entries that come up even when you enter "The Movies" in quotes) shows that it isn't coming out until October. Guess I'll have to keep plugging through Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for now. Another cool upcoming game for PS2 and X-Box is Destroy All Humans!, a game from the point of view of the alien. Played the demo on the recent X-Box Magazine disk, looks good, and more fun than Star Wars Lego Gamestop is offering preorders a free copy of Plan 9 From Outer Space DVD. You've heard about it, and this would be a good way to get it. I don't get anything if you get it that way, just pointing it out to you. Also got something I've been looking for for awhile via eBay: the Peter Jackson as Hobbit figure. Word is it's short packed and going for $30-35. Got it for $20 including shipping. Another week until Episode III. Yes, it sounds interesting and started to get excited about it. Hopefully they won't let us down again. |
