This is Tony Collett's weblog dedicated to my thoughts on the happenings in the world, comic books, anime, science fiction, DVDs, and anything else I encounter. I'm forty-something, male, and married (sorry, ladies)

View Article  Here's An Activist Judge i.e. I Don't Like His Judgement
My fellow Hoosier bloggers Mark "not late for dinner" Gibson, Gregory Harris and Jeff Cooper
have already commented on this news story about a judge overruling the parents' wishes and decreeing the child not be exposed to "non-mainstream religious beliefs and rituals." They both practice Wicca, whose core belief is "As it harm none, do what you will."; but most people hear as "witch" or "not Christian". The reason given is because the child goes to Catholic school and he doesn't want the child to be confused.
As I alluded to above, if the religion being barred was Christian, they'd be all over this like a hooker on a Corvette. So I guess we can't break out the pitchfork and Frankenstein rakes over this one*. Even though the wife is a fundementalist, I'd bet her line of thinking would be that the judge shouldn't have overruled the parents wishes on this matter. Notwithstanding the argument that if we allow the government and courts to define mainstream religious beliefs, sooner or later they're going to elimate yours. So don't cheer them on just because they rule against something you don't like.
PS: Gregory Harris also linked to this article about "religious persecution" in America, worth checking out.

Update: While writing the above, I was trying to think of the politician that was implying the courtroom shooting in Atlanta should be done to some activist judges, and jokingly ask if we could do the same here. Unfortunately, I couldn't recall the details and didn't go there. Fortunately, Tom DeLay complained about his name being used in a Law and Order episode about a shooting of a judge. Timing's a bit off, but hey...

Scott Kurtz mentioned some cartoonists striking out on their own on his PvP website. It's called Blank Label Comics and worth checking out. A couple of new favorites of mine: Shortpacked! about toy fandom, and Wapsi Square about smart and sexy twenty-somethings.
Well, that's the best description I can come up with. Go check it out already!
Here's one in response to the holy duo of trilogies, that'll only help the Highlander's case that I'm Star Wars obsessed, but I thought it was funny.

You scored as Christianity. Your views are most similar to those of Christianity. Do more research on Christianity and possibly consider being baptized and accepting Jesus, if you aren't already Christian.

Christianity is the second of the Abrahamic faiths; it follows Judaism and is followed by Islam. It differs in its belief of Jesus, as not a prophet nor historical figure, but as God in human form. The Holy Trinity is the concept that God takes three forms: the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Ghost (sometimes called Holy Spirit). Jesus taught the idea of instead of seeking revenge, one should love his or her neighbors and enemies. Christians believe that Jesus died on the cross to save humankind and forgive people's sins.

View Article  Howard Morris RIP
I've been off work Monday and Tuesday due to catching what the wife came home with from work on Saturday. Busy playing catch up. One of the first things I caught up on was Mark Evanier's web site, where he reported that Howard Morris passed away Sunday. Go to his site for details, anecdotes, links and more. Our condolences and best wishes are offered to his surviving family and friends. The only other I can offer that Mark hasn't was that Mr. Morris played Dr. Sivana in a live action Legend of the Superheroes duet of specials done in the late '70s, featuring Adam West and Burt Ward as Batman and Robin, with the recently passed Frank Gorshin as the Riddler, and then-unknowns Jeff Altman as the Weather Wizard, and Marsha Warfield as a innocent bystander relaying the action to a friend over the phone ("yeah, that red guy just did a pose and disappeared. Yeah, some special effects, huh" Well, not that exactly, but something like that)

As some of you know (or may not know) I've been a major Star Wars fan since '77. If I'm going to weigh in on anything, it would be on that topic. I'll exercise the little use "click here to continue" below just in case...   more »

Got a DVD recorder last Saturday. I've been looking at them for some time now, opted for a Panasonic model because it had a 1 yr parts and labor warranty, and had a lot of the features I wanted. It also offers the most options on types of discs you can use to record (as brief as I can not to lose my readers (all 3 of them) most models allow you to record on plus (+) or minus (-) discs, on CD R (one time only) or CD RW (record over and over, like video tapes) with the + or - between the spaces. The only format I can't use is CD+RW, apparanetly. There's also DVD-RAM, but from what I've read, it doesn't strike my fancy right now)
I've been using it to move stuff from my TiVo to DVDs, as I wasn't happy with saving them on VCRs. In the future I'm looking to transfer some tapes to DVD. I've already made a copy of a tape I got at Universal Studios Orlando of the Star Trek Adventure, starring my then-girlfriend now-wife as the Vulcan First Officer, my nephew as the Ensign, and yours truly as the acting Captain of the Enterprise. It was done on blue screen, with backgrounds and supporting Star Trek characters added in. And no, if you can't have a copy. After that Star Wars nerd video, I'm keeping this away from everyone with computer access.

Frank Gorshin has passed away at 72.
Also, Peter David's cat has passed away. Given that I have 3 cats that I came into similar to Peter's (stray pregnant mama cat that came by around the time my last cat died), and still missing my last cat, is why it's on my blog.

According to Newsrama, Kelsey Grammer is to play Hank McCoy, AKA The Beast, in X-Men 3. Scoll down the page and check out a Beast illustration by Boris Vallejo with a picture of Mr. Grammer.
Also, Maggie Grace of Lost is in talks to play Kitty Pryde.
