Well, we went to see Chicken Little in 3-D, mainly to check out the 3-D and the new theatre that opened up...well, not too far away. Basically all I would say is said here, except for saying Fish Out Of Water is a retarded fish (but a good argument in the article, tho), more on the hammering of the Message Of The Movie, and I even liked the fuzzy merchandising ploy. Oddly enough, the experience (as opposed to the film) took my mind off my troubles for a little while, as opposed to other films I could mention but won't on the grounds that I'll get run out of here on a rail.
We ate at a diner, an actual diner where you see them cooking the food (the type of place where I saw some potato cubes on the grill, and asked the lady what they were, and was told home fries and she offered to make some for me)

I did some fixing of the links (updated Highlander's (I think), James Rocchi, and Netflix Journal, for example)
Speaking of Netflix, I received an e-mail about a class-action settlement that isn't much of one, click on the link if you want the details, but I think I'll do the same as he did, and it's one of those where the only one it benefits are the lawyers and the accused (like the time Nintendo settled a price fixing lawsuit by sending us all $5 off a purchase on Nintendo products) And reading the Showcase Jonah Hex trade paperback: some of the early covers at least also show Bat Lash. That would be another I would suggest for the Showcase treatment. DC? Marvel got back the movie rights to Iron Man, and are thinking of doing it themselves. As I also recently got the first Essentials collection, one thing I'd like to see them do is the premise that Tony Stark has to keep the chest plate on to keep his heart going. Of course, they'll have to update the origin, but I wonder if they'll go from Viet Cong to Terrorists? There's a new theatre chain in this area opening a multiplex tomorrow that's showing Chicken Little In 3-D that the wife wants to see, and the 3-D and new movie chain has piqued my interest, especially the stadium seating and 4 feet of space between aisles. And when the hell is Green Street Hooligans coming to Indianapolis? It's been two months now since I read about it on Peter David's blog. It's not like I live in some backwater town, like Louisville (well, that should guarantee me a comment, huh SuperGirlfriend T ^_^) Update: I finally got the info up on the official website that states it's playing in the south side of Indianapolis starting December 16th! (link is to the theatre's website) Any of you readers (all 5 of you) up for a meeting around that time? It's a bit closer from Louisville. And my mom the union president wants to look at the ruling and have someone else take a look, even after telling her that was it, I was through. You'd think she'd have her hands full dealing with Delphi, but noooooo. She said I wouldn't have to do anything else, and I'm going to take her at her word. Well, that's it. I'm gonna watch some TV, or read, or play Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories for the PSP, and go to bed.

I just got the decision on the hearing in the mail. The judge ruled that there was just cause in firing me, so no unemployment money.
Oh, well, at least I don't have to go through the hassle of filing with the state every week anymore, which was made more of a hassle after they first denied it and I had to reopen my claim every week (and even had to travel 25 miles to the nearest unemployment office one time) I can at least search for work on my own terms, and not worry about meeting the state's qualifications for unemployment I'm not going to get. I was watching Beavis and Butthead on Comedy Central and saw an ad where you can go to this site to enter the contest to win The Daily Show couch and a trip to New York. Send me a post card if you win.

Mark Evanier's added some stuff to his site, including Great Los Angeles Restaurants That Ain't There No More. I've never been to Elay myself, but it interesting to peruse. The restaurants listed fall into either ones that are gone or ones that have changed the food offered to the point it's not as good.
I'd like to add my--well, you know-- and eulogize a couple in my area: Rob and Jay's Chippy, recommended to me by Mark Dooley of the Whoosier Network. It was a small place run by an expat that offered fish and chips, soccer (or football) games on the telly on the weekends, and other items of import/interest. The fish were great big pieces and the chips looked like they just ame from potatoes. Unfortunately, it was in a location that was out of my way and considering eating there involved pondering the travelling there. Also unfortunate was the fact that about a couple of months after being fired, they decided to close up. After that I don't want to go to Long John Silver's again. Maybe Captain D's. The only other viable alternative is an irish pub a block away from where I used to work, but I don't know if I want to be that close to the portal of Hell. Also, the one time I took the wife, I made the mistake of going on a very busy Friday night, where we ended up in the smoking section and sitting atop tall stools. The next restaurant was a pizza chain called Godfather's Pizza, a chain that was somewhat plentiful in Indianapolis years ago until one day when they disappeared. The pizza actually had a layer of sauce and toppings between the cheese and crust. And the end was designed to be a good handle to hold the slice. Which was fortunate, because the pizza was rather greasy. But that was just fine with me. Going with the name, they went with a gangster motif, even having an actor as the title spokesman. His catch phrase: "Do it!" (stretched out more) I particularly missed them when they disappeared because the location in Merrilville was the annual stop on the way home from the Chicago Comicon, which they resolved by mutating into Wizard World. Years ago when I was visiting my parents' hometown, the wife and I were driving down to the Smoky Mountains. It was lunch time and were starting to look for a place to eat. And then I saw it. As Mark once wrote about another beloved restaurant chain and looking for a place, Also Sprach Zarathustra (you know, the 2001: A Space Oddysey theme) should have been playing at that moment. I cried out "THERE!!!!" I had thought it was good when a nearby gas station/convenience store that was getting ready to open was advertising they were offering Godfather's Pizza. When they did open, I tried it out, but it tasted just like every other pizza you can get from a convenience store. So they are still around, and there are some locations around with food just about as good as I remembered it, but in Indiana about the only ones around are the aforementioned part of a convenience store ones that aren't as good. Or good, period.

The hearing went. Representing my former company was the manager who apparently has gone on to another position in the company (I was going to say too bad it wasn't before I was let go, but going over what all went on, I don't want that after all.) Highlander, you're right when you say management doesn't have a clue. She couldn't state my start date or my final salary. I offered that info, but the judge interrupted me while I was trying to answer the final salary by saying she would ask me the same questions when it came my turn. Another good point was when she first purported to be the one who did the verbal warnings and under questioning by the judge admitted that she had not, and it was pointed out that I had not signed them.
The interesting thing about those warnings (they were for using the internet for personal use when calls were holding) were they were documented by a supervisor in retaliation for thinking she caught me again, but I was actually on company business. They were all written in red ink by the supervisor on that day, although the verbal warnings were for 2 previous dates. I was going to use that in my defense, but my mom (who I was keeping apppraised while all this was going on) said not to bring up unless they asked me. As far as my defense, I had pointed up that I was never rude to customers, that our current phone system didn't have the calls recorded that could be pulled up and listened to later, and that our company believed the customer was always right. Also, the charge of hanging up wasn't true because not only didn't I do it, I was aware that was unacceptable behavior, that they would fire anyone doing that, that I knew that they did had phone logs to check on. I did make the error of not telling a supervisor of the phone problems that day, but that was because usually someone else (and usually a few someones) would point out if there were phone problems, that the response was usually "we know, we're working on it" (usually in a less than courteous tone of voice) I also pointed up my service, that a supervisor reviewed my records regularly, etc. I tried to submit that I got a raise in my annual review, but the judge said it was something I wrote up and wasn't relevant. I explained that the company would get a copy and would dispute it if it weren't true. My mom said I did a very good job, and it bothered the manager/company to have to go through all this, too. Also, that most people don't appeal because of the nervousness, intimidation, etc. that people feel, and that I should feel good that I stood up for myself. If I get all that from this, it was worth it. Hopefully, they won't Google this up. I have taken care not to mention who I worked for, or any specifics. And thanks, Mark and Tammy, for sending me you best wishes, and the rest of you (all 3 of you) who thought them. PS I just saw where Mike and H posted their best wishes. So that leaves only one (ironically, not the Highlander^_^) Sorry about the password thing, but although I have lots of free time now (ha!), I don't want to spend it deleting spam about p*rn0 links. |
