Well, tomorrow's the big day. One way or another, this is it. The appeal hearing for my unemployment. Frankly, the whole thing is intimidating, with getting the notice of the date and having to provide evidence, etc. Fortunately, my mother the union president talked to me and told me what to submit and what to say at the hearing. Also, the hearing is being conducted by telephone via a 3-way call. The bad thing is the other day I got a copy of all the evidence they submitted (previous write-ups, etc) My mom said she'd be there with me, but I just wish it was all over. It's been hanging over my head the past few days, and being told not to worry isn't doing me any good.

When I got Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories for the PSP the other day, it also had a software upgrade 2.0 for the PlayStation Portable. One of the new things was a web browser. The PSP is wireless capable already to play with other people.
So today when the wife and I went to cash her check, she wanted to eat at Cici's Pizza, a buffet chain. And I knew they advertised free wireless internet. Unfortunately, mainly due to Sony, Rockstar Games, or whoever not including instructions on how to use the web browsing capabilities, it took a while to figure it out. Eventually, I was able to sign on and surf the web on the PSP. However, it is rather limited. To type anything you go to another screen that has a phone touchpad-like device you would highlight for certain letters and push the button to get the letter needed (1 was a,b,c; 2 was d,e,f; and so on) plus it has limited memory, said I was out of memory in the middle of checking out the Blank Label Comics web site. But it'll have to do until I can get wireless capability on the old laptop, which'll be after getting high-speed internet for the home. Why won't anyone respond to my resumes?

According to Toon Zone, Turner Classic Movies is scheduled to show Studio Ghibli films in January, including some not released by Disney yet. No word on whether they'll be sub-titled or dubbed.

Mike Norton posted a warning about how ATMs charge you even for failed attempts to take money out. As he said, vigilance (preferably on-line) and knowing the rules are our only defense.

Welcome back, my friends, to the Republican Horror Show that never ends: first, Dick Cheney wants Congress to OK torture. And I'm reading Al Franken's latest book The Truth with jokes and finished the chapter last night about how Tom DeLay supported such activities in Saipan, a country and their neighbors that in 1986 "became the American Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and their indigenous peoples were granted US citizenship." Therefore, American clothing manufacturers could set up sweatshops, pay the workers $3.15 an hour, make them work 14 hour days 7 days a week, and can still label their clothes "Made in USA". Also, any female workers who became pregnant were forced to have abortions. And don't get me started on the females lured with the promise of US citizenship and work who are forced into the sex industry in that country. Instead of giving people money to buy a clue, they should be given money to buy this book.
I can now avoid horror films for the same reason I avoid drugs: the real world's outdoing them. Tuesday, October 25

I just saw on Mark Gibson's blog about Rosa Parks' passing. While Mark pretty much said it all, I remember a few years ago when she was mugged I had hoped that that incident would be the catalyst to stop inner-city crime. Unfortunately, no one took up the gauntlet.
But do not take this as typical internet bashing. I have nothing but the highest respect for her and feel she has done more than enough for humanity. Far more than I, at least. Wednesday, October 19

Okay, I did the research on this, it isn't quite buy one, get one free, but Polident is offering a ticket if you buy one via the Companion Booking website or calling their 800 number if you send in 5 proofs of purchases. Go to the first link to get the numbers and an idea of how much (and how feasible) it would be to take a trip this way.
For instance, Indianapolis to Orlando would run $320 for the first ticket, $9.95 for the second; plus taxes, security fees, etc. A search via Expedia puts two tickets at over $400. Hey, I said up front it wasn't buy one, get one free; and I did some of the leg work so you wouldn't have to. |
