With eBay's announcement in the increase in their rates, I also learned that the company that I use to help manage my auctions, Auctionworks, is hitting me for $29.95 a month! Ouch!
Does anyone have a recommendation for a company that helps store images, launch auctions at a set time, etc. That doesn't cost as much?

News is coming out (that you can read here and here that James Dobson is claiming Spongebob Squarepants is promoting a gay agenda. Briefly, it concerns a video sent to schools to teach children about multiculturalism that includes a tolerance pledge. It was created by Nile Rodgers, who wrote the song "We Are Family", that has been used as a gay anthem and is the same title of an organization that supports gay youth. But the video mentions nothing about sexuality.
Mark Evanier suspects it may be a ploy to get publicity for his organization. Sorry to say, the wife sometimes listens to his radio program just as I'm coming home from work. The other day he was doing a segment that a date in September was declared "Bisexual Day" Sorry I don't remember the date, and I can't find it on any calendars. Anywho, I made the joke that it was a ploy by the card companies to sell merchandise. When the Missus asked what I said because she was in the room, I repeated it and added that I can't wait to see the Hallmark store display for that holiday.

What's up with iWon Movies? iWon is a web site that's handing out prizes to go there to get news, info, whatever. One of the things it offers is to look up movie times in your area. But sometimes they'll refer to a movie by another title. They were referring to Ray as "Unchain My Heart-The Ray Charles Story". And now they're referring to In Good Company as "Synergy" As Seinfeld says, what's up with that?
While we're on the subject of movies, I want to second Gary Sassaman's recommendation of Danny Dechchair. I got it from Netflix and watched it a while back. Saturday, January 15

While tooling around the net, found that Gary Sassaman has his own blog. Been a fan of his since Innocent Bystander #1 (my letter was even published in issue 2). Go check it out!

Just read a touching tribute by Doc Nebula about his late, great friend Jeff Webb.
A couple of favorite passages: "I used to miss Jeff every day. I’d be walking down the street and see something… a sign, something someone was wearing, a holiday decoration, a poster… and think I should mention that to him next time we talked. I’d be watching something on TV at home and see an ad for a new movie, or an upcoming TV series, and think “I wonder what Jeff would think of that”. I hate that Jeff missed out on BUFFY, and ANGEL, and SMALLVILLE, and Magic: the Gathering, and HeroClix. And email. And weblogs. And prepaid phone cards. And so many other things." "I could never teach him the one thing he most needed to learn: that for people like him, and people like me, it is necessary to learn to disregard the opinions of the unworthy." I never met you, Jeff, but I miss you. Thursday, January 13

I've been doing pretty good past few days. Saw a few DVDs trying to get through them. Wake Up, Ron Burgundy wasn't bad for a movie that was made up of stuff on the cutting room floor (including a sub-plot involving a would-be radical group called the Alarm Clock) The narrator was trying to pass it off as a sequel, but as certain plot points were paralleled, it was easy to see it was an edit of deleted footage.
Monty Python's Life of Brian was rented, inspired by my recent trip to Spamalot. Although it has been touted as controversial (dealing with Brian, someone who was born in the manger next to You-Know-Who) most of it covers Brian hooking up with a protest group. The "what have the Romans done for us" scene, recently hyped as one of the funniest scenes (but as usual when you hear something like that about something you haven't seen, don't think it's all that) sounds like something from an Alqueda meeting. Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle was a lot of fun to watch. Had a couple of likeable characters, some funny bits and skin. Good way to kill a couple of hours. I got together some DVDs to trade at Blockbuster to get me a copy. The coolest thing I saw last weekend was the trailer to Sin City, courtesy of E!'s Coming Attractions show. This looks just like the comic, with the cars going up in the air when they go over a hill and everything. Well, everything but naked breasts. The reason for my title is that I am finally starting to watch some of my DVDs after work during the week. I had been having a problem with brain lock, having so many things to watch that I end up not watching anything. Got a couple of episodes of the original Star Trek watched (I haven't seen all of them and I am going through the first 2 season sets I purchased. I haven't purchased season 3. Like Star Trek V, I'm not sadistic) Also saw Night at the Opera, classic Marx brothers. And got through the remake miniseries of Battlestar Galactica in anticipation of the new series starting tomorrow. The synopses on Ain't It Cool News sounds like this is going to be a good one. |
