Mark Evanier posted an article about the passing of Richard Pesta, aka Captain Sticky. Back in the 1970's, he was a purported real life superhero who fought against consumer fraud. And way back in that prehistoric time, when I was trying to launch my own school newspaper column (The Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World of Tony Collett, give a Mad or two), I did a write up about the good captain.
The obituary can be read here.

Wasserbaum said there is no way to predict whether the children will recover. "One thing is certain," Wasserbaum said. "For us as a nation, the horrific consequences of almost-nakedness have only just begun to make themselves apparent." Wasserbaum added that children who saw the televised breast in Europe, Australia, and various other nations throughout the world were somehow unaffected by the sight.

Okay, later this year, you're in the theatre. The fanfare plays, the Twentieth Century Fox logo segues into the Lucasfilm Ltd. logo. You see the words "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." John Williams starts, STAR WARS goes off into the distance, and then...
War! The Republic is crumbling under attacks by the ruthless Sith Lord, Count Dooku. There are heroes on both sides. Evil is everywhere. In a stunning move, the fiendish droid leader, General Grievous, has swept into the Republic capital and kidnapped Chancellor Palpatine, leader of the Galactic Senate. As the Separatist Droid Army attempts to flee the besieged capital with their valuable hostage, two Jedi Knights lead a desperate mission to rescue the captive Chancellor... Courtesy of Ain't It Cool News and Star Wars.com. (Okay, okay, like me you gripe about the first two. And like me, you'll be in the theatre wanting to see what's going on. Call it car wreck syndrome)

Read it here.
From the article: "Fox News in New York issued a statement saying, "Ted is understandably bitter having lost his ratings, his network and now his mind - we wish him well."" "Adolf Hitler was more popular in Germany in the early '30s than ... people that were running against him," Turner said in remarks videotaped by conference administrators. "So just because you're bigger doesn't mean you're right." Tuesday, January 25

Beau Smith is talking about a cool comic in his column this week that's in French, and only found one of the three volumes published so far. I second the motion for someone to bring it out in the States, it looks good!
Update: In Beau's forum there's a thread where there's some answers. Monday, January 24

With eBay's announcement in the increase in their rates, I also learned that the company that I use to help manage my auctions, Auctionworks, is hitting me for $29.95 a month! Ouch!
Does anyone have a recommendation for a company that helps store images, launch auctions at a set time, etc. That doesn't cost as much? |
