There is a bill before the House The Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act (HR 2239) that would require that all electronic voting machines produce verifiable paper trails. It also "bans the use of undisclosed software and wireless communications devices in voting systems, and limits electronic communication to outgoing reports of vote totals only". There is a history of problems with these machines.
Contact your representative and urge him to vote for this. I just did.

Appranently, the cost of war in Iraq (counter can be placed on your web page, as Mike Norton has seen fit to do) doesn't include supplying our soldiers, as this letter to the editor by a soldier's parent indicates.
Meanwhile, a couple of comic strips have started a storyline about the war. While Doonesbury is getting all the press, Get Fuzzy has started a similar storyline. I liked the subtle dig about our government shipping the injured and casualties back in the dead of night.

From Mike Norton comes this report that Comics Buyer's Guide is going from weekly newspaper to monthly magazine. Basically, it's a response to the Internet providing more immediate information and feedback, and also their belief to provide competition in the magazine, as I gathered from the quote "We mean, seriously: Who would ever put “Not Recommended for All Ages” on a magazine about comic books?" You don't have to be a Wizard to figure that one out.
