When I started in early January, I had no idea where this was going. And now this is my 100th post to my blog.
I'd like to thank Comic Weblog Updates for really bringing up my numbers, Elayne Riggs for her early encouragement and plugging, and the other bloggers linked on the right for keeping me going and inspired.
I'd like to end by saying I wish that Calvin and Hobbes was still being done, or at least available on the web, cough cough cough

For those of you that think San Francisco is liberal, and universities are a haven for the back and forth of ideas should read this.

I come out for gay marriage, I talk about how bad our government and "president" is doing, call a popular morning show team a couple of lapdogs, say I like Michael Moore, (all in the past week, no less), nothing.
I thought I was going to have to argue for killing puppies in the street. But make a comment about McDonald's eliminating Supersize items from their menu, and I get a response. It's good to hear feedback, albeit anonymously, but I didn't see it coming.

To Anonymous: I'm glad you're happy that this decision was made for you and the "people dumb enough to eat at McDonald's regularly". Just don't come crying to me when someone makes a decision for you and takes away your freedom of choice. Not that I'd recognize you, since you didn't identify yourself.
But you're right, Mickey D's isn't making this choice for our welfare, they're making it because of raving loudmouths and weasly lawyers. Tuesday, March 2

According to this article from the dreaded Fox News, McDonald's is phasing out it's Super Size because people don't want to be responsible for their choices and want someone to do it for them. They should be sentenced to 6 months of listening to The Eagles' "Get Over It".

Marge Schott, controversial owner of the Cincinnati Reds, has passed away. Dunno if Bob and Tom are still playing their recurring faux talk show starring Marge called Smoke 'Em If You Got 'Em (given that Clear Channel has them on a short leash), but they ended each show with her saying "It's Marlboro time! Marge says let's get the f*** out of here!" (Although they forgot to bleep it one time, like The Daily Show did last Thursday, with nary a complaint).

Elayne Riggs posted this article from Tristero she quoted from Slashdot about a couple that microwaved their $20 bills. (Question: what is the proper blogiquette about quoting other bloggers? I felt this example is proper, as I read it on Ms. Riggs' site, but she read it elsewhere, etc. but some might think it's overkill)
I didn't read it close enough before clicking on the link, but now I'm thinking about putting foil in my wallet. Or maybe I've been overhearing too much of Jack Van Impe when the wife watches it.

Other bloggers have pointed out a central area that lets you know Comics Weblog was last updated. Initially, I had some misgivings because he has Peter David, Fred Hembeck, and Mark Evanier as last updating September of 2003, but they said they were getting pings from blo.gs, and I verified it got yesterday's entry, so I got signed up. This post is to let you know about it, and see if it updates.

I wasn't too excited about the Oscars as I have been in the past. I have looked forward to it more than the Super Bowl. One year, I even won a contest, getting free movie tickets for a year. One problem is it's on a work night and I have to get up early the next day. The other is the lack of enthusiasm for this year's field, as you could gather from this entry.
But given that there isn't any competition on the other channels, I thought I'd at least give it a look-see. The opening montage with Billy Crystal was interesting and funny, even called in the wife to check it out, and she ended up staying and watching it with me. About that montage, even though I agree with what Michael Moore has to say most of the time, I thought seeing him spliced into LOTR: Return of the King decrying it was a fictitious war before being squashed by a giant elephant-beast was funny. However, the evening was predictable, with the big awards going to whom most people predicted, and LOTR: Return of the King winning every category it was in. Finally called it quits around 10:30 to go to bed. Set up the rest to TiVo, to catch any good bits I may miss, and see if the bulldog gets back with his family on the Mastercard commercials, part of a continuing story that I caught the first two. I've also heard they showed the Tiger Woods in the Bill Murray role in Caddyshack American Express commercial I saw at the theatre last week when I chickened out of seeing The Passion of the Christ and saw In America while the wife saw it, looking forward to that. |
