This is Tony Collett's weblog dedicated to my thoughts on the happenings in the world, comic books, anime, science fiction, DVDs, and anything else I encounter. I'm forty-something, male, and married (sorry, ladies)

Read in Steve Grant's new column his review of American Splendor Our Movie Year. Saw that Amazon had it and placed it on order for Christmas (short version: wife doesn't drive, ultimately turns out easier to select what I want and have her wrap it up) Also selected Bill Hicks Live DVD so I could qualify for the free shipping.
Checked my comics orders, found that I ordered it through my local comic shop. I did think about cancelling it, but since it's through a "regular" book publisher (Ballantine) and I don't know when (or if, there's a few mainstream items that haven't shown up. [sarcasm]I'm still waiting on the DC Comics DVDs of Justice League, Batman and Batman Beyond Movie that I ordered years ago[/sarcasm]) it's coming, decided to let the order stand. $11 is a small price to pay for peace of mind, and to learn about Diamond. I think from now on, I'll keep my orders to the more "direct market" stuff.

Y'know how the FCC is clamping down on indecency, handing out fines left and right?
Well, bad enough they tried to hit Fox with a $12 million plus fine that they said was based on 159 complaints, then 60, then 3. But it turns out most of the complaints that start the ball rolling are from Parents Television Council (99.8% to be exact)

Here's an article from Salon (might need to view a short ad if you don't subscribe, but worth it to read the articles) about how soldiers are being penalized for trying to bring the Iraqi tortures to light.
When, oh when will the trolls lose?
View Article  The Vote Was Rigged
Here's an article confirming what we've feared: the electronic voting machines were rigged for W.
We've been warning about this for months, what I'm interested in finding out is if anything will be done about it.

Took the wife out for an early birthday celebration (her's is December 7th, our wedding anniversary is September 11th; can we pick 'em, or what?) for the usual, meal at Cracker Barrel w/money for her to spend there and at the Christian bookstore. She had her usual Old Timer's Breakfast, but she was tempted by the Fish Fry (being Friday, y'know) that I succumbed to, that was actually quite good.
Also, last week at her family's for Thanksgiving, her mom gave us a $200 check for Christmas to buy the presents and bring over like last year. She was wanting to buy a kitchen island, a cart to go in the middle of the kitchen. She was saying that Meijer's had one for $299 and I was thinking, there goes the money. But while we were at Wally World (Wal-Mart) we decided to check out what they had there. Found one that fit the bill of what she wanted and more for $80. She was very happy to get what she wanted and I was happy to get some money to pick out something I wanted.
View Article  Henry Rollins on IFC
Just got word from IFC e-mailing that Henry Rollins is doing a show for them, Henry's Film Corner. Big fan of his spoken word stuff.
Also, Ultimate Film Fanatic is returning in January. Just the cure for the post-holiday blues.
Now if only DirecTV would add Anime Network to the lineup...

Quick update: the aforementioned illness started as an upset stomach, became a sore throat (around time of last posting) and became severe congestion. Almost have it licked thanks to Chris Rock's dad's all purpose medical cure Robitussan. Will try to post again when I can.
