Recuperating from an illness, turning 41, and all that turkey.
Saddened by the news from Mark Evanier that Trio may be gone at the end of the year.
As for the nickname in the last post, Mark, for some reason it popped in my head long ago, and that post was the first chance to really use it. Stayed in my mind like Robin Williams giving the nickname Jack "Boom Boom" Valenti.

Although I read the DVD release news elsewhere, Mark "Hoot" Gibson scooped me, with a picture of the cover as well.

Broke down and got the complete Buck Rogers TV DVD set today. Chalked it up to an early birthday present. Skimmed the pilot movie, which is the only one that has the lyrics to the theme song. And I'm goober enough to transcribe them and bring them to you.
First, you know the premise: 1987 NASA releases the last deep space probe (which looks like a space shuttle launched by an Apollo rocket. Hey, they didn't have the stock footage yet) Accident, bam, gets frozen. Then William Conrad says "For 500 years Buck Rogers drifted through a world in which reality and fantasy merged into a timeless dream..." And atop the Buck Rogers logo is our hero sleeping when he isn't making out with Space Disco babes, we are treated to the following: Far beyond the world I've known Far beyond my time What am I Who am I What will I be Where am I going And what will I see Searching my mind for some truths to reveal What thoughts are fantasy What memory's real Long before this life of mine Long before this time What was there Who cared To make it begin Is it forever Or will it all end Searching my past for the thing that I've seen Is it my life or just something I've dreamed Far beyond this world I've known Far beyond my time What kind of world am I going to find Will it be real or just all in my mind What am I Who am I What will I be Where am I going And what will I see Hey, it beats Roddenberry's lyrics for Star Trek.

From USA Today comes this article about how Ashcroft is boasting about improved security and the police are complaining about having to foot the bill and the people to do it. Also, "President Bush is phasing out a $10 billion program begun by the Clinton administration in 1996 to help local departments hire tens of thousands more cops."

From the streets of Cleveland comes this domestic violence case that was dismissed due to what appears to be cronyism and petty vindictiveness, including a prosecutor telling the accuser in the courtroom "I don't want to speak to you... Speak to your lawyer. I don't think you and I have anything further to talk about." I guess that's what you get when you worry about the accused bragging about not being convicted due to his political connections. Once again, the trolls win.
Also, here's a column by Regina Brett about the matter. |
